Goodbye 😔

Lately I have been in a weird headspace and not feeling really good. I decided to move blogs and start over so that I can start over fresh and have my mental health in check. I have been in a slump creatively (I also took a break from my Instagram ) so I felt like I needed a do over.

So if you still want to read my reviews and such you can find me on my new blog. I will be deleting this one in a couple days or so.

Hope everyone understands,

Amber 🌻

Little Monsters recap of the book: Kacey and friends go to the barn to visit the "Red Women's " who supposedly hunts this barn. They try to form a seance but things go wrong. The next day Bailey goes missing. Accusations toward Kacey starts forming. Is she the reason Bailey has gone missing ?
Kacey's character was relatable. She didn't get along with her mother so she has to move with her dad that she barely knows along with his new family. She had to transfer schools, find a job and try to fit in. She befriends two girls in her grade named Jade and Bailey. They all then become inseparable. This is told in Kacey's point of view and Bailey's journal entries.

From the first time the girls were introduced I didn't like them well Bailey mostly. Here is an example :

when Bailey discovered we went somewhere without her she didn't text either one of us for two days.

Another example is when Kacey went out with her family one night she told the girls she would text them when she was done. Her, her step-brother Andrew and step-sister Lauren went to a restaurant to eat and the girls found them and Bailey said

Way to text back

In Bailey's journal entries and when Kacey describes Bailey actions reminds me of Pretty Little Liars.  Bailey reminded me of of Alison DiLaurentis who was the leader of her group and everyone had to follow her every rule and if not there were consequences. Jade to me was very weird and towards the end I see why.

Kacey was a tough character. She already came from a broken family so she was able to stand up for herself when she needed to.

Kara Thomas did a great job of leading up the suspense of Bailey's whereabouts. Plenty of times I thought I knew some hints but I was way off.

This book was dark in a sense. There is one quote that Kacey says that basically says we all are dark. Here is the quote :

I was the beast inside me that breaks free when I'm cornered the thing that makes me freak out. Black out

Little Monsters discusses about mental health such as depression and anxiety. From how Kacey act out at times I would say bipolar as well. I really enjoyed this book. I stayed up until the wee hours of the night to finish this and I'm glad I did.

If you are fans of Pretty Litle Liars or ove a good mystery/thriller than this is for you

Thank you to the author Kara Thomas for adding me to her Street team and Netgalley for sending me an arc of this book in exchange for a honest review

So thrift stores and I have a very unhealthy relationship. I try and not to get anything but I always manage to come out with at least one book. I have no self control!  It’s really sad at this point😂

I’m going to show you my recent book haul. My recent purchases are from last week up until this past weekend. Also when I came home yesterday I had book mail. Let’s get on to it.

First up is

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

I have read this before about two or three years ago. I have also seen the movie and CRIED! I love the movie. Everytime I would go to the thrift store I would see TFIOS but would never get it. I don’t know why but I seen the movie cover and said why not. You will soon see that I like movie covers.

 Girl, Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen

Another movie cover. The story with this one is that I have never seen this movie but I have heard of it. Looking through this book looks like a powerful book. It follows a mental health person so I can’t wait to get to it.

Woman No. 17 by Edan Lepucki

This was sent to me for review so I hope to read it this month.  I have heard and seen this around on bookstagram but I don’t know too much so I’m going to go into it blind.

Catching Fire and Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

Randomly I wanted to reread this series so I have been on the hunt for all three. I found both Catching Fire and Mockingjay at the thrift store. Somehow I couldn’t find the first one. I hope to find it soon. I have seen all the movies I just want to reread all the books. Back when I read them in high school I only read up to half way with Catching Fire.

The next three books I got this past weekend.

In a Dark Dark Wood by Ruth Ware

I know next to nothing about this book but what drew me in is that one of the blurbs said “who pulls a gun at a bachelorette party?” And I immediately put it in my cart. Also she is the author of Woman in Cabin 10 which I heard is a good book.

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

I have seen this book EVERYWHERE because of the series that is out on HBO. I tried to read Moriarty’s The Husband’s Secret a couple years back but I couldn’t get into so I’m going to try another one of her reads.

The Dry by Jane Harper

I seen this on Goodreads once and when I saw it I was like “hey I seen this on Goodreads. Guess I’ll get it” 😂 and I dont know a thing about it.

Anatomy of a Scandal by Sarah Vaughan

This was the book mail I received. Thank you Atria Books and Shelf Awareness. I entered a giveaway to receive one out of three arcs that were at BEA and I chose Anatomy of a Scandal. From what I gather from the title a scandal happens and things go downhill from there. This book isn’t published until December so I hope to read it in the next upcoming months.
We have made it to the end. That is all the books I have gotten so far this week. I’ll probably have more once the month is over. I said I will put myself officially on a book buying ban at the end of this month. I’ll be going back to school in August so I won’t have time to go and buy books like I would like.

Hope you guys enjoyed! Let me know if you have read or heard of any of these books in the comments 😊

new week , new read 📖

I am back with a new post. I am feeling a bit better since my last post. I just think I need to get my life together. Make a plan. Become organized. All of that.

It’s a new week which means I am reading something new. I was reading and listening via audiobook THE HELP. I gave it 4 ⭐️. I enjoyed the movie as well. If you would like to see a movie/book comparison let me know.

This week I will be getting a head start on my July TBR. I started THE BOOK THIEF. I am only like 4 pages in so I don’t have an opinion yet. Everyone keeps telling me that this book will break me and honestly I like books like that. So break me away. Bring on the feels.

Has anyone read this or seen the movie? Let me know in the comments !

Happy reading 💕

Random Thoughts 💭

I haven’t been blogging because I don’t know what else to write about besides what I’m reading, book hauls or reviews. I feel stuck. Which isn’t new for me. I tend to get into these weird moods and I just become unmotivated and uninspired to do anything.

It’s summertime which means I am supposed to be out with friends or family, having fun or working. Nope I have been stuck in the house only going out for a couple of occasions which was with family. I don’t have friends because once I had my son they all just disappeared.

My emotions have been all over the place I want to scream then the next moment I want to cry. Then I’m happy again. *sigh* I need a break 😞 I need some fun. SOMETHING. In the past two years my attitude, personality changed. I had to grow up fast because I became a young mother. Life can be tough when all I have is the support of my mom and sometimes that can be nerve wrecking because all she does is belittle me and wants to argue 24/7. Then I have a toddler who only knows me and and his grandma so he constantly wants to be held, played with , talked to , etc. and I get it. But sometimes singing the same song over and over is annoying. My son is in the current stage of terrible 2’s so my nerves have been on sky high. He wants to constantly fight , bite , whine and it’s all really getting to me. I try to be nice but then I have to be mean. Which I hate. But that’s the only way he will learn.

I think I need to go to parenting classes or therapy. I don’t know. At this point I don’t think I am even making sense. I can’t wait to go back to school in August maybe that can let up some of my stress I have going on right now. I am able to feel like I’m doing something with my life. I have been trying to find a job but no luck in that (as usual ) all I do day in and day out (if nothing with the family is planned) I sit in the house and scroll on all my social medias, watch the same movie with my son 30 times, Eat and sleep. I try to make plans with my so called friends but it never goes through.

At this point of my life I don’t know what to do. I’m 22 and I feel like I have accomplished nothing but have a baby. Which isn’t true. In January I went back to school after being gone for a year and passed the semester with flying colors 🎉. I’m still alive. I have a beautiful baby boy

Life is rough for me when you don’t have many to talk to and vent to. I did have one friend but she was too toxic for me. She constantly argued and threw my flaws in my face like I didnt know them. Always tried to play the victim so I had to get rid of her.

I just really hope I can find some peace and happiness. I haven’t been happy in a LONG time. Which is sad if you ask me 😕

I said I didn’t know what I was going to write about but yet here I am rambling. Just writing down all my thoughts I feel at the moment. I hope things get better for me

Leave some words of encouragement down below. I’ll try to think of some new blog posts soon but as for now I’m going to take a break from blogging .. maybe. Who knows 🤷🏽‍♀️. See I’m so sporadic 🙄

For starters I seriously enjoyed this book.

The premise of Here and Gone is about a lady named Audra Kinney who runs away on a road trip with her two kids Louise and Sean from her abusive, enabling husband Patrick. While on the road she gets pulled over by an Officer in this small town which she is passing through. He tells her that her car is overloaded and suggest to move some of her items to his car. Audra declines. The officer who is named Officer Whiteside “finds” marijuana in her trunk and then proceeds to arrest Audra. Remember her kids that were in the car? Whiteside calls one of his partners Deputy Collins to come take them somewhere “safe” and then proceeds to take Audra to jail. Once she is there she ask the officer about the safety of her children and he asks her “what kids?” From there is where the book takes off.

Here and Gone kept me on the edge of my seat. Throughout the book I kept questioning myself did Audra really have her kids because the officers and news reports kept insisting that Audra harmed her kids and that she didn’t really have them with her.  This is my first read by this author so I didn’t know what to expect. When I first started this I read the first eleven chapters pretty fast. I kept having to stop myself reading into the wee hours of the night. Thats how good this book was!

It was really stressful waiting for Audra to figure out where her kids were. The two police officers kept her locked up in jail, questioning her everyday about the whereabouts of her children like she did something with them. The book follows the points of view of Audra (who I enjoyed the most), Sean (Audra’s son), and a guy named Danny. With Audra parts you get a flashback of her back when she first became a mother. Audra took pills, drank and dabled in cocaine. Not while she was pregnant but afterwards. Her enabler and abusive husband Patrick would buy alcohol and pills for her and not let her take care of her kids. He would hire a nanny or his mom to help take care of the kids. I really did not like him. I don’t know why he treated Audra the way he did but he was really pathetic. In one of the scenes in the book Patrick says this to Audra:

“Just think of the things I can do to you…I can open the window and throw you out. You think anyone wouldn’t believe it was a suicide? Or you can open the safe in the closet, find the pistol there, blow your brains out. Or maybe run a bath and cut your wrists”

He made me want to punch him in his face! One time Audra told his mom that he hit her and she gone say “you probably deserved it” I see the apple does not fall far from the tree. SMH. Another character I didn’t like was Officer Whiteside. He got on my nerves. Ugh he was such a coward. The way he would talk to Audra really irritated me. Here is an example: “I can search you, and that’s what I’m doing. You don’t get special treatment just for being a woman” The way he acted and talked really made me want to find him and punch him in his face. In another scene he told Danny that he had to leave town because he didn’t belong because he was a Latino. So Whiteside was also racist.

With Sean’s pov we learn where he and his sister are being held and his encounters with Deputy Collins. Then with Danny’s pov we learn that something like this happened to him with his daughter and he finds a way to help Audra.

The book also has email exchanges with this group where they talk about exchanging certain things for a huge amount of money. At first when I first read Danny’s chapters and the emails they didn’t make sense cause they would pop up after something big happened but soon they made sense.

The ending of the book seemed really rushed for me. A lot of things happened pretty fast and I had to reread some parts to figure out what happened. The writing of Beck was really good, nothing too intense and deep. He certainly makes you love or hate a character that’s for sure. I kept thinking I was right there with Audra that’s how pulled into the story I was. This is my first read from this author and I will be reading more of Beck other works. Some triggering warnings about this book is that there is abuse, drug use and Audra deals with some mental illnesses.

This book sort of reminds me of Gone Girl with everyone thinking the husband killed his wife and a lot of things popping up that makes him a suspect. Thats how Audra was being treated which really broke my heart.  All she wanted was to get her kids back but instead she was being seen as a druggie, psycho mom by the world.

I gave this book 4 stars. This book comes out on  June 20th, 2017 so make sure to be on the look out for it.

Hey long time, no talk. I have been on hiatus for a bit. My mental health needed it. There was a lot going on in my life so I decided to take a break. But I’m back… with a new TBR. You all know I don’t really stick with them but I hope to this month 🤞🏽

I can’t believe it’s June already 😳 this year is going by so fast! Usually I don’t do TBRs but I do try them out from time to time. This month is one of those times. I have a very outrageous amount of books I want to read. I want to read 10 books this month. For the past couple of months I have only been reading about 4 or 5 books and now that I am stress free I want to read as much as I can starting this month.
So let’s get on into the books ..

First off I will start with what I’m currently reading at the moment. I just finished Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater. I haven’t read this book since I was in high school back in the vampire/werewolve days. Rereading it bring back those feels and makes me want to read New Moon. This book is about a girl named Grace who falls in love with a werewolf named Sam. Cliche I know 🙄 but it’s actually good. Well I enjoy it. I plan to read the sequel Linger next. I don’t have the third book Forever so it may be awhile until I get to it. Since I am trying to use my kindle more I am also reading two e-arcs. One is called Here and Gone which is about a lady who goes on a road trip with her kids, get arrested and then gets tricked into thinking she never had kids with her to begin with. Super good so far. The other book Bring Her Home is about two girls, Summer and Haley who has disappeared. One is found dead and the other is in critical condition (I won’t tell you which is what 😏) The father of the girl that is in critical condition tries to find answers as to who can do that to these girls. I’ll have more updates on those two soon. I also will be buddy reading 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher with my best friend Taylor. I watched the show and read the book a hundred times I just want to compare the two.
Next up, I plan to read An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. I will be buddy reading this with my friend Lexi (@lexislifelibrary) on Instagram. Here is the synopsis from Goodreads :

Laia is a slave. Elias is a soldier. Neither is free.

Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.

It is in this brutal world, inspired by ancient Rome, that Laia lives with her grandparents and older brother. The family ekes out an existence in the Empire’s impoverished backstreets. They do not challenge the Empire. They’ve seen what happens to those who do.

But when Laia’s brother is arrested for treason, Laia is forced to make a decision. In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empire’s greatest military academy.

There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined—and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire.

I have been seeing this book all over bookstagram so I can’t wait to read it 😩 The next two books are Memoirs of An Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin and Dear Mr. M by Herman Koch. I don’t know too much about them but I plan to go in those blindly only knowing a tiny bit. If that 😂.

The last book I plan to read this month is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I am super excited for this one because I haven’t read it since high school. I have been searching high and low for this book at plenty of thrift stores and I finally found it like 3 weeks ago 😆. I also have the “sequel” to this book To Set a Watchman To which is set 20 years after TKAM. I tried to watch the movie and then try and read the book but I just couldn’t get into it that way so I’m excited to have the book now.
I hope I can get through all 8 books and then reward myself by reading two extra books. This is a very ambitious TBR but let’s hope I can fly through them 🤞🏽
What is on your TBR this month? Let me know in the comments !
